This is a continuation of my diary from last night entitled The Nightmare of Verizon DSL. I wanted to provide the community here with an epilogue of how my attempts to get my service reinstated.
More beneath the fold.
For those who missed the first thread I am buying a condo shortly. In order to plan my move I had called various utilities to set up service. One of them was Verizon. I told them that I wanted to have my service--phone line and Internet--moved on a certain day. I expected to have my service here shut off at 1159 PM one day and then turned on at 1200 AM the next. With phone service it's supposed to work like that. Unfortunately, on Tuesday night, they shut off my DSL.
What followed was a myriad of phone calls with rude customer service representatives in India and in the Philippines who lied to me. They obfuscated the truth. I took a day and a half off work, only to not get any resolution. I just kept going in circles, being promised one thing, but getting another.
So, at 8 AM, I call them. I end up being routed from person to person again. No one has a clear answer as to why I have no DSL. Again they keep telling me that they will start the service at the next place. I told them that I needed my service reconnected and they told me that they were not able to do that. Having been on the phone for almost an hour I scream at them and cuss them out.
I take the advice that another poster gave me and asked to speak to the local manager. I ended up being dumped into the disconnect department. No matter what I can't reach that person. This woman didn't take kindly to my tone with her. She said that there was nothing that she could do. She also said that she couldn't cancel my DSL until I move to my new place. I told her that I wanted it canceled. She told me to call back when I am in my new place. She would not cancel my service. I finally had to hang up because I had work to do that my job. I realized that I was getting flustered.
At 10 AM I call back and the technician tells me that the "Central Processing Office". (In this whole saga the name of the office keeps changing). The woman said that my escalation ticket was now "closed". She said that the line would not be reconnected to DSL here until I move. And that was it.
So I officially wasted three 1/2 days trying to get my DSL back. I had to take off a day and a half off of work for nothing. The only silver lining is that they supposedly have given me a free dial-up connection, which is slow. So I am stuck using that.
And thus is the end of my odyssey with Verizon DSL. I called Comcast, who will be installing my cable, to also sign me up for their Internet. Given how disgusted I am at Verizon, once ADT installs my security system, I will be transferring my landline to Comcast. Verizon has shown that it doesn't deserve my business.
I just am amazed at the level of incompetence that I've seen. And I know for certain that I will be fighting Verizon for months to come with bills and charges that they will claim are mine that aren't. Sigh.
